Karmir Vank (The Red Church) or Kalataryants Monastery is located in Ardvi community of the Tumanyan region. It was built in the 10th-11th centuries. Red building stone was used for the construction of the monastery, hence the name “Red Monastery”. There is a legend about the name of the monastery, it is said that the Lezgins massacred the people sheltering inside the monastery, whose blood flows like a river from inside the monastery, that is why the monastery is called Karmir (red).
