Described as a &#8220;masterpiece of religous architecture and a major center of learning in the Middle Ages&#8221;, Haghpat monastery was placed on <a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNESCO&#8217;s World Heritage List<\/a> in 1996. The largest church in the complex, the Cathedral of Surb Nshan, probably begun in 976, was completed in 991 by king Smbat.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1701160996422{margin-top: 100px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]Carrying outstanding universal value to humanity, the Monastery of Sanahin was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999.
