Stepanavan Dendropark was founded by Polish engineer-forester Edmund Leonowicz  in 1931.

This collection expanded along the newly constructed footpaths and vistas which began to reach into the natural forest and is thought to be the first place in the Transcaucasus, where a natural forest landscape had been reshaped into a Forest Park.

Most species were brought from different countries, such as Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, Germany, France, Portugal, China, and the USA. Among the outstanding specimens of the park are 5 Californian sequoias, which will become huge in a few hundred years (you can see them in the photo).

Over 500 species of trees from different parts of the world and the fresh air make this a must-visit destination. The high season is between the second half of May till the end of the first half of June when the flowering of trees is in the most active phase. It’s highly recommended to visit Dendropark at this period of the year for children and people with the problems of lungs, such as bronchitis, asthma, etc.
